The Simple To Follow Many Rules Of How To Play Golf

Not many recreational activities or sports include the amount of people that golf does. This sport has not been changed in centuries, which is a testament to its popularity. Knowing how to play golf is one of the most important things to know when it comes to creating new friends and new friendship bonds out on the course.

Scotland is the place where this sport originate. Men would grab their clubs and go out and try to hit the ball as close to a rock or anything as they could get. These rules of golf have not changed much since then.

The game of golf has changed relatively little over the last hundred or so years. The key to understanding the game of golf is to understand the terms that are used in the game. Knowing is terminology is key to knowing how the game works and how it should be played.

A club is what is used to strike the ball and move it down to the hole. The woods are clubs that are to be used to hit the ball long distances. Irons are your medium range clubs. If the iron has a low number, such as three or four, then the ball will go farther and fly in a line drive type of flight. If it is a high number, such as eight or nine, then the ball will have more lift and fly a shorter distance. Your wedges are your short range clubs. The putter is only to be used when your ball is on the green.

The hold is divided up into sections. The fairway is where you always want your ball to be until your get to the hole. The fairway has grass that is cut short and enables the ball to travel far distances on the ground. It is also cut short so the ball will be easier to hit. The rough is a section that surrounds everything and is usually the same length or a little longer than normal grass. This makes it harder to hit the ball and a ball will not travel as far here. The green is very shortly trimmed grass that has the hole on it. It is essential to judge your speed correctly here.

Out of bounds is somewhere that you do not want to be. This is usually market with white posts in the ground. If you hit your ball out you will be charged penalty strokes, which could, in the end, lose you the game. There are many other hazards that you should avoid, such as water and sand traps.

The number of holes you want to play is completely up to you. Most courses have eighteen holes to choose from and packages come in assortments of nine holes each. The minimum amount of holes to play is nine. There is often a front nine, which are the most commonly played nine holes, and the back nine. The back nine are usually only played when you choose to take eighteen or twenty seven holes.

Golf has not changed, in rules or otherwise, in hundreds of years. Every year millions of people flock to golf courses when the weather gets nice and stay out all summer long. Golf has truly resisted age, and knowing how to play golf is a skill that will always come in handy.
